about guatemala huehuetenango

huehuetenango is the coffee that launched st. lawrence valley roasters.

it was the first single origin that either of us tasted, and really opened our eyes to what coffee can taste like. it has clear citrus and chocolate notes, and is delicately sweet. overall, very balanced.

its been one of the owner's daily drinkers for many years, is the backbone of many of our blends and has been a continuous crowd pleaser.

if you like your roasts super dark or super light, this probably won't be your favorite, but if you like balance and full flavor, it's worth trying.

While many are familiar with Huehuetenango and the reputation of their specialty coffee, few have ventured to this isolated corner of Guatemala. The rugged terrain of the area has preserved the indigenous heritage, distinct clothing, and dialects that can vary from one mountain ridge to the next.

Asociación Barillense de Agricultores (ASOBAGRI) has become an important bridge for these local coffee farmers to the international specialty coffee community. This cooperative is one of the most sophisticated and well organized in the world.  They have over 1,400 members, spread across 80 communities, who cultivate and harvest their own coffee on small farms with their own micro-mills. ASOBAGRI is also committed to promoting gender equality throughout the organization.

Hummingbird Coffee

I don't know how they've trained hummingbirds to collect these coffee beans, but I'm glad they did. I use them for cold brew and drip coffee and both come out tasting great.
